The Signal
ETF Money Came Back. The Crowd Didn’t.

Bitcoin spot ETFs snapped a two-week outflow streak last week with $301 million in net inflows, the strongest weekly reversal since August. The money came from institutional allocators rebalancing into a dip that had pushed BTC below $80,000 for the first time since early September. But the crowd did not follow. Fear & Greed fell 9 points to 50 — Neutral — the lowest reading since this newsletter launched and the first time the index has left Greed territory in eight weeks.

The disconnect is structural, not accidental. Institutional capital treats a 2.8% weekly BTC decline as a buying opportunity; retail reads the same chart as a warning. ETH lost 4.0% and SOL 3.8%, both underperforming Bitcoin for the third consecutive week. Total market cap contracted to $2.68 trillion, down from $2.74 trillion the week of October 20 and $2.92 trillion at the October 6 peak. Dominance held flat at 60.1%, meaning altcoins bled at roughly the same rate as BTC — broad weakness, not rotation.

The FOMC meeting begins the day this issue sends. Kalshi prices a 94% probability that rates hold, with a 76% chance of a December hike already baked in. The market is not waiting for a surprise — it is waiting for confirmation that the hiking cycle has one more move left. Until then, institutional money is positioning while the crowd watches from the sideline.

This Week's Posture
Risk-Off — Institutional Divergence
Fear & Greed fell to Neutral for the first time in eight weeks while ETF inflows reversed positive. Retail sentiment has decoupled from institutional positioning — the crowd is cautious, the allocators are buying. Fourth straight week of price decline from the October 6 peak.
Core Rails
When these hold, everything else has room to breathe.
₿ Bitcoin BTC
Grinding lower, institutional bid underneath
$80,308
-2.8% this week
Bitcoin slipped below $80,000 briefly as traders de-risked ahead of the FOMC meeting, then recovered to close the week at $80,308 — down 2.8% but still within the range that has held since mid-September. The $301 million ETF inflow reversal confirmed that institutional buyers treat this level as an accumulation zone, not a breakdown. Over 11 million BTC now has no known owner, a structural supply constraint that tightens with every dip buy.
SIGNAL: Institutional bid holding the floor. The FOMC decision lands Wednesday — a hold is priced in, but the statement’s tone on December will set the next directional move.
Ξ Ethereum ETH
Underperforming BTC for the third straight week
$2,327
-4.0% this week
Ethereum fell 4.0% to $2,327, extending a slide from $2,715 three weeks ago. ETH dominance slipped to 10.6%, the lowest since this newsletter launched. The Glamsterdam fork recovery — aided by AI agents debugging a consensus failure — demonstrated network resilience but did not translate into price strength. Securitize’s tokenized stock value halved even as Circle widened its lead in on-chain institutional products.
SIGNAL: Dominance erosion continues. Price action depends on whether the broader market stabilizes post-FOMC; ETH is a passenger, not a driver, until the ratio finds a floor.
Signals in Brief
Everything else worth knowing. One line each.
→ HSBC rolled out RedCoin, an HKD-denominated stablecoin, to retail users across 3 million wallets — the first major global bank to put a stablecoin directly into consumer hands.
→ Keystone disclosed a website breach that exposed hardware wallet buyers’ physical addresses — data the company had previously told customers it would delete.
→ A Bitcoin wallet bug allowed rogue servers to steal funds when users attempted to speed up payments via replace-by-fee, exposing a protocol-level vulnerability in transaction acceleration.
→ Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand expanded a cross-border stablecoin initiative involving Ripple, Visa, and Mastercard — the widest central-bank-backed stablecoin corridor in Southeast Asia.
→ Hong Kong designated a Nasdaq-listed Solana-focused company as a strategic enterprise, the city’s first formal endorsement of a blockchain-native firm at the state investment level.
