The Signal
Wall Street Stopped Talking About Tokenization and Started Building It

JPMorgan announced that JPM Coin — a dollar deposit token already processing billions in internal transfers — will migrate to Ethereum’s public blockchain. The same week, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, and Morgan Stanley each described tokenization as a growth opportunity rather than a pilot program. Deutsche Bank said it would launch crypto custody in Germany and expand to Asia by 2027. This was not a coordinated announcement. It was five of the world’s largest financial institutions independently arriving at the same conclusion in the same seven days.

The scale matters more than any single product. JPM Coin on Ethereum means institutional dollar settlement will run on the same network as DeFi protocols and retail wallets. Goldman and Morgan Stanley framing tokenization as revenue strategy — not compliance risk — signals that the internal arguments inside these banks have already been won. Meanwhile, crypto vault deposits crossed $10 billion as institutional capital flowed into on-chain lending at a pace that drew regulatory attention.

The question is no longer whether traditional finance adopts crypto infrastructure — it is whether crypto incumbents or bank-built platforms capture the margin. SEC pushback on the OKX-ICE tokenized stock venue, with Broadcom and Verizon objecting to their shares trading there, showed that the integration will not be frictionless. But the capital committed this week was not exploratory. It was operational.

This Week's Posture
Transitional — Institutional Acceleration, Price Weakness
Fear and Greed fell 10 points to 59, breaking a seven-week Greed streak. Prices pulled back across the board — ETH lost 5.2%, SOL 6.1% — but institutional capital continued deploying into crypto infrastructure at an accelerating pace. The disconnect between price action and institutional commitment defined the week.

₿ Bitcoin BTC
Holding range, dominance rising
$82,355
-1.3% this week
Bitcoin gave back another 1.3% on the week, its second straight decline after the post-FOMC rally topped out near $86,000 the week of October 6. The pullback remained orderly — no liquidation cascades, no support breaks — but momentum has clearly stalled. BTC dominance climbed to 60.3%, its highest reading since this newsletter launched, as altcoins bled faster than bitcoin. With the October 27–28 FOMC meeting a week away, the market consolidated in wait-and-see mode rather than selling with conviction.
SIGNAL: Range-bound with rising dominance. The next directional move likely waits for the October FOMC.
Ξ Ethereum ETH
Underperforming, dominance fading
$2,424
-5.2% this week
Ethereum dropped 5.2% on the week, underperforming bitcoin by nearly four percentage points. ETH dominance slipped to 10.8%, down from 11.1% the week of October 13 and from 11.5% the week of September 22. The price action came against a backdrop of major institutional adoption: JPMorgan announced JPM Coin’s migration to Ethereum, and Goldman, Wells Fargo, and Morgan Stanley all signaled tokenization as a growth strategy. The market discounted ETH’s role as execution layer rather than rewarding it.
SIGNAL: Institutional adoption news failed to support price. Watch for whether the tokenization build translates to on-chain activity.
Signals in Brief
Everything else worth knowing. One line each.
→ Q3 crypto hacks cost $1.18 billion, with 77% of losses tied to compromised suppliers and systems outside the latest security audits — the gap between audit coverage and actual attack surface widened.
→ Zcash developers announced a quantum-resistance fix for ZEC swaps through NEAR Intents, giving each swap its own key so a public refund address cannot expose the sender to future quantum computers.
→ Bitcoin mining offshoot Nscale, backed by Nvidia, lost a Microsoft AI deal after its British grid connection was delayed into the 2030s — another casualty of the gap between AI compute demand and available power infrastructure.
→ Circle defended USDC economics as rival stablecoin networks courted its partners with larger revenue shares, while a BIS paper found that higher bank deposit rates predictably slow stablecoin growth.
→ Binance and Coinbase joined a West Africa scam sweep that flagged $11 million in fraudulent funds, extending exchange-level enforcement cooperation into markets historically beyond their reach.
